Γνωθι Ζ’αυτόν (Know Thyself): The Importance of Autistic Self-Knowledge
Kastoria, Western Macedonia, Greece
March 31, 2019
Catherine Faherty will be a keynote speaker for what is being described as the “First Panhellenic Festival dedicated to Autism” in Kastoria, Western Macedonia, Greece. This three-day festival (March 29-31, 2019) will feature fun activities for families and individuals, and educational presentations for individuals, family members, and professionals. It is being organized by the “Association for the Protection of Autistic People – Kastoria”. Catherine Faherty’s presentation will close the festival on the third and final day, through long-distance technology (Skype) from the Technological Educational Institute of Kastoria. She will introduce the importance of helping autistic family members and clients know themselves, nurtured by compassionate self-understanding, and education about autism, through honest and positive attitudes, and practical strategies. As this broad idea and practice is not yet generally nor widely discussed, accepted, or promoted in today’s Greek culture, Catherine’s presentation promises to be challenging to some commonly-held beliefs, while it enlightens and encourages the audience of individuals, parents, and professionals.
